Government Seeks Direct Communication with WHO, Citing Saima Wazed's Inactive Role
The Bangladesh government has sought direct communication with the World Health Organization (WHO), referring to Saima Wazed Putul, the current regional director for South-East Asia and daughter of the ousted prime minister, as "nonfunctional."
"The government has sent a letter to the WHO, urging immediate action to enable direct communication with the organization," Apurbo stated.
The letter emphasizes that Bangladesh desires to communicate directly with the WHO without going through the regional director. He noted that Saima Wazed Putul is a relative of the ousted autocratic leader Sheikh Hasina and has faced allegations of financial irregularities and pending criminal cases. "She is nonfunctional," Apurbo added.
Government sources confirmed that the foreign ministry recently dispatched a letter to the WHO, requesting direct engagement on health-related issues due to concerns regarding Putul's role.
